Today at church my Pastor spoke on Palm Sunday and Jesus’ triumphal entry. He pointed out something in Mark 11:2 that resonated with me.
and He said to them, ‘Go into the village opposite you, and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it.
Mark 11:2 (NKJV)
My pastor pointed out that many of us are like that donkey. We have all these God given talents but we have yet to use them. We act as if we are tied up and can’t move. Some of us don’t even realize what our gifts are and how we are supposed to use them.
This truly ministered to me because I have been guilty of not using the gifts that God has given me. Four years ago God placed on my heart to write my very first book, Tea for Two. He gave me the concept and how to put it all together, but I let fear stop me. I had so many fears:
- What if my book is rejected?
- What if I can’t come up with the money to have my book published?
- What if I barely sell any copies of my book?
- What if I can’t find a graphic designer?
- What if I fail?
Because I let these fears consume me, I dragged out writing Tea for Two for four whole years. I was stagnant for four years because of the many what ifs that floated through my mind. Those fears had me at a standstill. Those fears made me feel as if I couldn’t move forward. Those fears dictated my life. Those fears kept me from utilizing my gifts for His glory and to impact lives.
Esther 4:14 (NKJV),“…Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Someone needs our specific gifts. Someone needs to hear our testimony. There are certain people that you can reach that I am not able to reach. There is a certain group of people that you are called to. God has a specific purpose for each of our lives. He has given us certain gifts to fulfill that very purpose.
What is holding you back from using your gifts? What has you tied up? Is it fear of rejection? Is it fear of not being good enough? Is if a fear of the unknown? Don’t let these fears hold you back. When I stopped letting fear consume me and I decided to complete my book, God moved greatly in my life. He blessed me with a free book cover design. He blessed me with my head shot to go with my biography free of charge. He blessed me with an affordable publisher. He has blessed me with opportunities to speak on radio shows so that I can share my book and my testimony with the world. And this is only the beginning. This was all because I started utilizing my gifts for His glory. I undid that rope that was holding me in place and took off running.
Stop letting fear, worry, doubt, or anything hold you back from walking out your God given purpose and from using your God given gifts. Remove that rope from around you and start moving forward. God will guide you every step of the way.

I never fully understood how crucial my prayers over my husband were until about a week ago. It was a Tuesday morning a little before 7 in the morning when my phone started ringing. I saw that it was my husband calling, which I thought was odd since he should’ve been almost to work by then. When I answered the phone, he proceeded to tell me he was in a car accident. This was a serious accident and his car was in very bad shape (two tires were blown out, the left side of his car was scratched, the side mirror was broken, the suspension was bent, and more damage). It was by the grace of God that he walked away without a scratch or an ache in his body. You see every morning I pray over my husband. I pray over his safety and for traveling mercies for him as he drives to and from his destination. I truly believed that those prayers covered him during that accident.
Although praying over your spouse’s safety is critical, it shouldn’t be the only area of your spouse’s life that you pray over. One of the blessings of allowing God to write your love story is that you end up marrying your best friend. When your spouse is your best friend, they will open up to you and share with you their struggles as well as their goals and dreams. This will allow you to pray over those struggles and stand in agreement with your spouse on those things they are trusting God to do in their life. Last week I saw that my husband was under a lot of stress. I decided to lay hands on him. I placed my hands on his head while praying specifically over his mind and I laid my hands on his body and prayed over his body. That is what you are called to do as a spouse. You lift your husband or wife up in prayer, you lay hands on them, you take authority over the situation, and you rebuke the enemy.
There is just something so intimate and so beautiful about laying hands on your spouse and praying over them. I honestly feel that it builds an even stronger bond in your marriage and further reinforces your marriage against the attacks of the enemy. Husband and wives, you should pray with one another daily. This is so important in marriage. The enemy hates godly marriages and seeks to destroy any and all marriages. So pray over one another in your personal time with God and pray together daily.

I will take my post; I will position myself on the fortress. I will keep watch to see what the Lord says to me and how He will respond to my complaint. Habakkuk 2: 1 (CEB)
This morning while spending time with the Lord in prayer, I began to ask Him what He needs me to do to move into this next season. I recently completed my first book, Tea for Two: A 30 Day Devotional, and it is in the process of being published, which is exciting! I have an official release date, which will be April 26. Although this is such a major accomplishment, I’m once again feeling stuck. I don’t know quite what direction to go in. As I poured my heart out to my Abba Father this morning, He began to minister to me. He told me to stop worrying about the logistics and trying to figure out every minute detail. He then told me that I need to position myself in anticipation of what is to come. That truly ministered to me. You see, I am someone who has to know the when, why, and how of every situation. This is part of my issues of control, which God is currently delivering me from. I know what I desire to do with my life, but I can’t make that happen without God. I’m not supposed to make it happen without God. My responsibility is to position myself so that I am ready for all that God has in store for me.
Habakkuk 2:1 shows us how to position ourselves when trusting God to move us into a new season or to fulfill His purpose for our lives. The Hebrew word for position is kun. According to Bibletools.org, kun means to be firm, stable, and established; to be fixed, securely determined; to be prepared and ready. When God tells us to position ourselves, He is telling us to stand firm where He currently has us, but to also prepare for where He is taking us. For me, I truly believe He will move me into a season where I will have speaking engagements. How I can prepare for that? Some of the ways I can prepare is by ensuring I have professional head shots done that will be used on the flyers for these speaking engagements. I can also prepare by setting up a small business and a business banking account, which will be needed to receive payments for these speaking engagements. I can also prepare by continuing to blog and write as if I already have an audience I am speaking in front of.
Although I am standing still, I am still preparing for what is to come. This is what God means by position yourself. God is already moving on your behalf. He already has things set in motion so that you can move into your next season. However, if we are not ready to enter into that next season, if we have not prepared ourselves, He can’t move us. So instead of worrying about why you haven’t moved into what God has called you to, focus on what you can do to prepare. Change your mindset. Change your attitude. Change your thoughts. Operate as if you are already in that new season. And before you know it, you will be walking in all that God has called you to.
